Our Certified Laser Technician Natasha is happy to meet for a free consultation and test patching session regarding any of our laser hair removal procedures. She will assess your skin type with a questionnaire and examination, and then perform test patching during the free first visit. Test patching should ALWAYS be performed with laser hair removal to A) achieve the most effective laser setting for your particular skin type and B) prevent burns.

How long does it take?

The Prowave takes between 10 minutes for small areas such as the upper lip to 30 minutes for larger areas such as the under arm and bikini line. Larger areas such as the back, arms or legs can take 45 minutes.

Does it hurt?

The feeling is of a heat sensation akin to the snapping of a light rubber band against the skin. The feeling is short as the intense pulse of light quickly resolves. Patients tolerate the procedure very well.

How many sessions are required?

Laser hair removal takes an average of 6 sessions, separated by 6 weeks each. This is because laser hair removal only works on growing hair and only a fraction of the hairs are growing at any one time. The hair growth cycle (anagen) takes 6 weeks to change to a different set of hairs, therefore you must wait 6 weeks between treatments. Annual touch-ups are sometimes required to eliminate a small fraction of hair that may regrow.

How long does it take to see results?

Partial hair removal occurs gradually after each of the 6 sessions. Only dark hair is removable with laser. Blond, gray or red hair will not absorb laser light and therefore will not be removed with laser.

What will my skin look like immediately post-treatment?

The small areas where the Prowave 770 has removed the hair will be red in a minor fashion for one day, requiring no treatment or covering.

Why do you test patch?

Laser hair removal procedures require a test patching session prior to hair removal sessions. This is to ensure that the optimal settings are used for your skin. If test patching is not used, you are not getting the highest power setting and therefore the highest effectiveness for your money and time. Test patching also avoids surprise burns and is therefore an important safety consideration when performing laser hair removal.
